INDONESIA-EU TRADE PACT TARGETED TO TAKE EFFECT IN JAN. 2027: MINISTER
Trade Minister Budi Santoso announced that the Indonesia European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement is anticipated to enter into force in January 2027, as stated during the 2026 National Leadership Meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jakarta. The targeted implementation date is critical because the European Union Generalized System of Preferences tariff scheme, which has long granted special tariff advantages to Indonesian exports entering European markets, will expire on January 1, 2027. Minister Santoso pointed out that such international trade pacts should be evaluated through their positive impact on domestic industrial expansion and export opportunities rather than simple trade balances alone, adding that Indonesia already operates 25 trade agreements alongside 13 others currently going through domestic ratification.Echoing this perspective, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto highlighted that concluding the partnership agreement is vital to safeguard market access for national goods across the European Union once preferential trade terms end. Officials from both sides are finalizing the official English documentation so that the draft can be signed promptly and submitted to the European Parliament for legislative review in November. Once formal approval from European lawmakers and the Indonesian ratification procedure are complete, the comprehensive agreement will serve as the primary framework to sustain competitive market conditions and preserve bilateral commercial momentum into 2027.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/438915/indonesia-eu-trade-pact-targeted-to-take-effect-in-jan-2027-minister (ICE GIACARTA)
