INDONESIA AND TSINGSHAN DISCUSS EXPANDING NICKEL DOWNSTREAMING IN MOROWALI AND Weda Bay
During an official visit to China, Indonesia’s Investment and Downstreaming Minister, Rosan Roeslani, held a recent meeting with Xiang Guangda, the Chairman of Tsingshan Holding Group. The bilateral discussions were centered on exploring avenues to broaden nickel downstreaming while advancing higher-value industrial development initiatives across key industrial hubs, specifically in Morowali and Weda Bay. These strategic talks were designed to substantially reinforce Indonesia’s domestic mineral processing capabilities and elevate the nation's standing within global industrial supply chains, directly building upon Tsingshan’s substantial established operations and previous capital investments in stainless steel manufacturing, electric-vehicle battery materials, and adjacent industrial sectors.Despite the constructive dialogue regarding future industrial cooperation, the bilateral engagement concluded without the public announcement of any concrete new investment pledges or explicit project valuations. This absence of immediate financial commitments unfolds against the backdrop of significant broader economic headwinds within the market, including falling international nickel prices, mounting operational expenditures, and concurrent concerted efforts among nickel producers to coordinate deliberate output cuts across the industry.Source: https://www.thejakartapost.com/business/2026/10/26/ri-tsingshan-discuss-deeper-nickel-downstream-projects-in-morowali-weda-bay?utm_source=(direct)&utm_medium=channel_business (ICE GIACARTA)
