NATIONAL ENERGY COUNCIL URGES SOLAR POWER EXPANSION TO SECURE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY

The National Energy Council (DEN) is actively promoting the development of solar power plants (PLTS) to diversify energy sources and improve the reliability of the national electricity grid. Speaking at an energy policy event in Purbalingga on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, DEN member Unggul Priyanto highlighted that relying heavily on a single energy source increases system vulnerability, particularly when adverse weather disrupts fuel distribution or electricity generation. For instance, dry seasons can sharply reduce output from hydropower plants, while changing river conditions often hinder coal transport for thermal power plants. Developing solar energy offers a viable solution to broaden electricity supply without depending solely on fossil fuels or hydrology.Indonesia's planned 100-gigawatt solar energy initiative marks an important milestone toward expanding non-fossil energy utilization. However, Priyanto pointed out that solar power generation is intermittent because it depends on daylight and cannot operate at night. As a result, the expansion of solar power must be supported by an integrated grid management system that balances multiple energy sources, including hydropower and conventional power plants. A balanced energy mix remains vital to building a resilient power infrastructure and ensuring sustainable electricity supply for both public and industrial consumers across the country.Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5814195/den-dorong-pengembangan-plts-untuk-perkuat-pasokan-listrik (ICE GIACARTA)
