INDONESIA EXTENDS MANDATORY HALAL CERTIFICATION DEADLINE TO OCTOBER 2028
The Indonesian government has officially postponed the mandatory halal certification deadline for several product and service categories from October 18, 2026, to October 2028. According to Susiwijono Moegiarso, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the extension will be formalized through an amendment to Government Regulation No. 42/2024 to accommodate the readiness of businesses and the domestic halal ecosystem. Under the revision, the new deadline applies to services related to food, beverages, and slaughtered products, as well as compliance timelines for micro and small enterprises. Imported food, beverages, and slaughtered goods have also received an extension to October 18, 2028, allowing additional time to finalize mutual recognition agreements on halal standards. The updated timeline further extends compliance until October 17, 2028, for cosmetics, natural medicines, quasi-drugs, health supplements, chemical products, genetically engineered goods, and designated consumer items previously slated for 2026 enforcement. Meanwhile, schedules for other sectors remain unaffected, with over-the-counter medicines maintaining a phased deadline through October 17, 2029, and prescription medicines granted until October 17, 2034. As part of this transition, the government will revoke BPJPH Regulation No. 4/2026 regarding conformity assessments for imported halal goods, aiming to safeguard trade flows, enhance industrial competitiveness, and ensure legal certainty for market operators.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/amp/news/436173/ri-extends-halal-certification-mandate-for-select-sectors-to-oct-2028?utm_source=chatgpt.com (ICE GIACARTA)
