GOVERNMENT PREPARES DOWNSTREAMING PROJECTS AND SOE RESTRUCTURING TO BOOST Economy
The Indonesian government under President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming is preparing 26 downstreaming projects worth 225 trillion rupiahs during its first two years. Managed by Danantara across two phases, these projects are expected to create 37,833 jobs and strengthen national industry by boosting the added value of natural resources. Additionally, the government is improving trade governance through a single window export policy via PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia starting June 1, 2026, for coal, palm oil, and ferroalloy. This policy aims to improve export supervision, prevent under-invoicing, and optimize foreign exchange earnings from key commodities that previously generated 66.13 billion US dollars in exports. To improve institutional efficiency, the government is consolidating state-owned enterprises (SOEs) by closing 328 entities out of 1,074 mapped SOEs and their subsidiaries. This restructuring has already saved approximately 50 trillion rupiahs in overhead costs, with target savings exceeding 70 trillion rupiahs by the end of 2026. Furthermore, a dedicated task force was established on June 12, 2026, to accelerate the formation of the Indonesian Minerals Exchange. Supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the exchange is set to operate on January 1, 2027, to provide domestic reference prices and increase transparency in strategic commodity trading.
