INDONESIA SEEKS EUROPEAN PARTNERSHIPS IN TILAPIA AND SEAWEED

Indonesia is seeking to strengthen partnerships with European investors to develop its tilapia and seaweed industries, covering the entire value chain from production to processing. According to TB Haeru Rahayu of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, collaboration opportunities in tilapia include improving seed quality, feed efficiency, fish health, and product traceability. These opportunities were presented at the Indonesia-Europe Business Forum (IEBF) 2026 in Tangerang. In the seaweed sector, Indonesia is promoting cooperation in quality seed supply, aquaculture technology, mechanisation, and post-harvest handling to improve the consistency and quality of raw materials for processing industries. Indonesia also highlighted the strong export potential of both industries. Representatives from the Indonesian Tilapia Association (ATI) reported that Indonesia’s tilapia exports reached US$87.57 million in January-November 2025, with the European Union accounting for US$7.13 million or 8.1% of exports. Indonesian tilapia achieved an export value of US$6.98 per kilogram, the highest among major global exporters. Meanwhile, the seaweed industry sees opportunities to expand beyond hydrocolloid products into food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, bioplastics, and agriculture-related products, with Indonesia seeking European support through trade, investment, research, quality testing, standards compliance, and market access.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/436261/indonesia-seeks-european-partnerships-in-tilapia-seaweed (ICE GIACARTA)
