INDONESIA SEEKS BIGGER ROLE IN ASIA-PACIFIC RETAIL INDUSTRY

Indonesia is seeking to strengthen its position in the Asia-Pacific retail industry, with the Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo) emphasizing that the country is more than just a large consumer market. According to Solihin, Chairman of Aprindo, Indonesia serves as a growth platform, business ecosystem hub, and emerging regional retail player. The wholesale and retail sector contributed 13.2% of Indonesia’s GDP in 2025 and grew 6.1% year-on-year, outperforming overall economic growth. This performance is supported by a population of over 270 million people and a rapidly developing digital payment and omnichannel retail ecosystem. Aprindo believes Indonesia’s retail potential extends beyond its domestic market, with local retailers increasingly expanding abroad. Solihin cited Alfamart's expansion into the Philippines as evidence that Indonesian retail capabilities, including supply chain management, branding, and human capital, can compete regionally. The association also supports greater regional collaboration through partnerships, technology exchange, and MSME integration, while calling for stronger government-industry cooperation, predictable regulations, and resilient supply chains to support future growth.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/434998/indonesia-seeks-bigger-role-in-asia-pacific-retail-industry?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
