INDONESIA EYES CHINESE INVESTMENT IN BALI AI & SEMICONDUCTOR HUB

Indonesia is seeking to attract more Chinese investment to develop the Kura-Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (SEZ) into a regional hub for artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and digital innovation. According to Ali Murtopo Simbolon, Acting Secretary-General of the National SEZ Council, the initiative aims to strengthen Indonesia’s digital economy, research capabilities, and industrial competitiveness through deeper collaboration with China. The zone already hosts activities led by the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center (TSEA), including research programs in physics and neuroscience and a semiconductor forum organized with Tsinghua University. The project is supported by growing Chinese participation in Indonesia’s special economic zones, where Chinese companies accounted for 97 of 481 tenant businesses as of the second quarter of 2026. Nationwide, Indonesia’s 25 SEZs have attracted around US$20.7 billion in cumulative investment and generated more than 283,000 jobs. The government is also promoting the Two Countries Twin Parks (TCTP) initiative, which combines Indonesia’s resources and market potential with China’s investment and technological expertise to foster high-value manufacturing, semiconductor development, and digital infrastructure projects.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2803375/indonesia-eyes-chinese-investment-in-bali-ai-semiconductor-hub (ICE GIACARTA)
