INDONESIA EXPORTS FIRST EV BATTERIES FROM WEDA BAY TO STRENGTHEN GLOBAL SUPPLY Chain

President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated 11 integrated nickel downstreaming projects valued at approximately 10 billion USD in the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), North Maluku. The event marked the groundbreaking of seven strategic projects, the commercial launch of three ventures, and the historic first export of lithium EV battery cells. Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani emphasized that these developments complete the end-to-end EV battery ecosystem—from raw mineral processing and battery cell manufacturing to future recycling—positioning Indonesia as a key player in the global electric vehicle supply chain. The combined projects across battery components, electrolytic aluminum, electric heavy equipment, and photovoltaic glass are expected to create roughly 13,000 new jobs. The expansion at IWIP highlights the significant economic impact of downstreaming, particularly in North Maluku, where investment realization reached IDR 65.4 trillion in the first half of 2026 and propelled regional economic growth to 15.35 percent. Nationally, total investment realization reached IDR 1,010.6 trillion in the same period, with downstreaming sectors contributing nearly 30 percent—more than three-quarters of which was realized outside Java. Minister Rosan reaffirmed that accelerating downstream industrialization outside Java remains a top national priority to drive equitable regional economic development, enhance local workforce integration, and expand national industrial capacity.Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5777676/rosan-ekspor-baterai-kendaraan-listrik-iwip-perkuat-hilirisasi-ri (ICE GIACARTA)
