INDONESIA LAUNCHES US$10.2 BILLION DOWNSTREAMING PROJECTS IN NORTH MALUKU

Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated 11 downstreaming projects worth US$10.2 billion at the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) in Central Halmahera, North Maluku. The launch coincided with Indonesia’s first export shipment of electric vehicle (EV) batteries, highlighting the government’s commitment to increasing the domestic value-added processing of natural resources. The president emphasized that Indonesia’s rich mineral resources must be managed responsibly to generate greater prosperity, while ensuring that more economic benefits remain within the country through industrialization. The projects form part of Indonesia’s broader downstreaming strategy, which promotes domestic processing of minerals such as nickel and aluminum instead of exporting raw materials. Four companies officially began commercial operations, including Blue Sparking Energy, REPT Battero Indonesia, Pioneer Aluminium Industries, and XCMG Indonesia Manufacturing, while seven additional industrial facilities broke ground during the event. Prabowo Subianto also stressed the importance of environmental protection, calling on industry players to maintain high standards for air quality, water management, and waste treatment as the country expands its industrial base.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/434612/prabowo-launches-us102-billion-downstreaming-projects-in-n-maluku (ICE GIACARTA)
