INDONESIA ENCOURAGES FINANCING OF THE BLUE ECONOMY DOWNSTREAM SECTOR
Indonesia is seeking greater financing for its blue economy downstreaming sector, focusing on sustainable aquaculture, seaweed processing, seafood manufacturing, and marine cold-chain and logistics infrastructure. Speaking at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2026, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, urged financial institutions and investors to support projects that can transform Indonesia’s vast marine resources into long-term economic value. The government is advancing six national priority programs to drive investment-based growth in the fisheries and maritime sectors. The minister emphasized that downstreaming is essential to creating higher added value through processing, manufacturing, innovation, and technology rather than relying on raw commodity exports. Seaweed has been identified as a key opportunity, with support from private-sector partners such as Standard Chartered, which has committed funding through its “Oceans of Opportunity” initiative to strengthen sustainable seaweed value chains and create jobs across ASEAN. The government hopes that stronger public-private collaboration and innovative financing mechanisms will accelerate investment, boost exports, and generate more economic benefits for coastal communities.Source: https://katadata.co.id/ekonomi-hijau/investasi-hijau/6ac6dd9be35c0/punya-potensi-besar-indonesia-dorong-pembiayaan-sektor-hilirisasi-ekonomi-biru (ICE GIACARTA)
