WORLD BANK HIGHLIGHTS DOMESTIC DEMAND AS INDONESIA'S ECONOMIC ANCHOR AMID Regional AI Boom

The World Bank reports that strong domestic demand continues to serve as the primary engine driving Indonesia's economic growth, setting it apart from other East Asia and Pacific nations. While neighboring countries such as Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam have seen over 70 percent of their export growth propelled by the global artificial intelligence boom and high tech supply chains, Indonesia remains less exposed to this specific trend. Despite lower direct participation in AI hardware exports, robust local consumer and investment demand offsets external trade conditions, leading the World Bank to project Indonesia's economy to expand by 5.2 percent in both 2026 and 2027.   Looking forward, the World Bank emphasizes that adopting AI technologies still presents a vital opportunity for Indonesia to enhance overall national economic productivity. Chief Economist Franziska Ohnsorge noted that developing economies can leverage existing AI tools tailored to local domestic needs by focusing on key foundational pillars. To fully capture these long term benefits and sustain growth as fiscal stimulus tapers, Indonesia must strengthen its human resource skills, digital and energy infrastructure, financing access, business climate, and private sector investments.  Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5774078/bank-dunia-permintaan-domestik-topang-ekonomi-ri-saat-ai-boom (ICE GIACARTA)
