INDONESIA MAPS OUT SEAWEED DOWNSTREAMING STRATEGY THROUGH 2030

Indonesia is strengthening its seaweed downstreaming strategy through the Integrated Seaweed Development Action Plan (ISDAP) 2026–2030, which aims to transform the country’s vast seaweed resources into higher-value industrial products and build an integrated value chain from cultivation to processing. The initiative supports Indonesia’s broader industrialization and downstreaming agenda by promoting value-added products rather than relying on raw seaweed exports. Muhammad Sarmuji, Minister of Industry, said the government is preparing a comprehensive industrial ecosystem to help make Indonesia a global leader in seaweed production and processing. The strategy is expected to contribute to manufacturing growth by expanding downstream industries that produce higher-value derivatives, while strengthening links between agriculture, manufacturing, and exports. The seaweed sector is viewed as an important component of Indonesia’s industrial development, supported by the strong performance of the manufacturing sector, which contributed significantly to GDP, investment realization, and exports in 2026. The government hopes that developing an integrated seaweed industry will increase value creation, support economic growth, and enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness in global markets.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2793514/indonesia-maps-seaweed-downstreaming-strategy-through-2030 (ICE GIACARTA)
