INDONESIA TARGETS IDR 3,839 TRILLION INVESTMENT DRIVE TO BOOST DOWNSTREAM Industries and High Tech Growth

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the Indonesian government aims to secure IDR 3,839.9 trillion in total investments between 2025 and 2029. Downstream processing investments reached IDR 300 trillion in the first half of 2026, marking a 6.9 percent increase compared to the previous year. The roadmap covering 28 key commodities is projected to generate 618.1 billion USD in investments, 857.6 billion USD in exports, and 235.9 billion USD in added value. This strategy has already proven effective in boosting export performance, as seen in nickel based exports rising from 1.3 billion USD in 2016 to 34 billion USD in 2025. Additionally, downstream development supports economic distribution outside Java, which absorbed roughly 75.7 percent of the first half downstream investment in 2026.   Beyond downstream commodity processing, the government is accelerating a broader industrial transition toward high value sectors, including agroindustry, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and digital services. Minister Airlangga emphasized that competitive green energy and emerging technologies like machine learning, IoT, and automation are essential to maintaining global industrial competitiveness. To support this technological shift, Indonesia is expanding vocational training programs through partnerships with private enterprise, targeting the development of 15,000 AI and semiconductor talents over the next three years to meet future market demands.Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5773264/indonesia-hingga-2029-bidik-investasi-hilirisasi-capai-rp3839-triliun (ICE GIACARTA)
