MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY PREPARES INTEGRATED ECOSYSTEM TO TRANSFORM INDONESIA'S Seaweed Downstream Sector

Minister of Industry Muhammad Sarmuji announced the government's commitment to building an integrated seaweed industrial ecosystem to transform raw natural resources into high-value national assets. Speaking at the National Seaweed Forum 2026, he emphasized that seaweed should not be traded merely as a raw commodity, but diversified into value-added products across food, agar, carrageenan, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, biomaterials, and bioplastics. The initiative aligns with the draft National Industrial Development Master Plan (RIPIN) 2025–2045, ensuring seamless supply chain links between upstream raw material production, processing capacity, and downstream market demand while upholding environmental sustainability and benefiting local coastal communities.   Building this sustainable blue economy ecosystem requires cross-sector synergy involving government programs, private investments, specialized financing, advanced research, technological innovation, and international cooperation. Minister Sarmuji highlighted that industrializing seaweed will expand market access, boost exports, and create broad economic multiplier effects. By integrating resource availability with industrial processing and user industries, the Ministry aims to position the seaweed sector as a resilient cornerstone of national economic strength. Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5773236/kemenperin-menyatakan-kesiapan-ciptakan-ekosistem-industri-rumput-laut (ICE GIACARTA)
