INDONESIA TARGETS 7 GW NUCLEAR POWER CAPACITY FOR ENERGY SECURITY
Indonesia is targeting the development of 7 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear power capacity as part of its long-term strategy to strengthen energy security and support industrial growth. According to Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Presidential Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, the target has been formally included in the national energy master plan following consultations with state-owned utility PT PLN. The nuclear program will complement the government’s ambitious 100 GWp solar power development target, helping ensure reliable electricity supply for households, public services, and industry nationwide. To advance the program, the government aims to finalize the locations of nuclear power plants by 2026 or 2027, with site selection depending on the technology chosen. Indonesia is currently evaluating partnership proposals from major nuclear technology providers in the United States, South Korea, Japan, and Russia. The government views nuclear energy as a reliable and sustainable source of power to support industrialization, especially as national electricity demand is projected to reach 600 terawatt-hours (TWh) by 2030, with per capita electricity consumption approaching 2,000 kWh.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/434385/indonesia-targets-7-gw-nuclear-power-capacity-for-energy-security?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=desktop&utm_campaign=top_news (ICE GIACARTA)
