MIDDLE EAST AI INFRASTRUCTURE SPENDING REACHES $8.4 BILLION AMID SHIFT TO AUTONO
Driven by a transition from experimentation to full-scale deployment, AI infrastructure spending across the GCC has reached $8.4 billion out of a $318 billion global market, supported by projected 37.3% regional growth in data-center systems spending for 2026. Speaking on the security implications of this rapid expansion, Zheng Li, Chief Product Officer at Abu Dhabi-based Ansen Technology, highlighted that as agentic AI shifts from producing information to taking autonomous action, an AI system making the wrong decision presents a greater enterprise threat than external hacking. To mitigate these context-driven operational risks, Li emphasizes that security leaders must treat AI agents as employees—implementing dynamic, least-privilege access controls, continuous action audits, and embedded governance frameworks to ensure autonomous systems operate strictly within defined, trusted boundaries.
