KOREA, CENTRAL ASIA FORGE NEW SUPPLY CHAIN PARTNERSHIP AT SEOUL SUMMIT

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan adopted the “Seoul Declaration” in Seoul, aiming to strengthen economic cooperation between Korea and Central Asia. The agreement focuses on trade, investment, resilient supply chains, digital transformation, energy and infrastructure. Particular attention was given to Central Asia’s critical minerals, including lithium and uranium, which are considered strategic for diversifying Korea’s supply chains and supporting sectors such as batteries, semiconductors, electric vehicles and advanced technologies. The countries also highlighted potential cooperation in oil, gas, petrochemicals, hydropower, renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy infrastructure modernization. During the first Korea-Central Asia Business Summit, attended by around 520 government and business representatives, 19 memorandums of understanding were signed in areas including critical minerals, smart cities, industrial plants and digital technologies. Lee stressed the complementarity between Korea’s manufacturing and technological capabilities and Central Asia’s natural resources and growing markets, proposing a “Silk Road of the Future” linking energy, advanced technologies, businesses and new markets.
