INDONESIA EYES BIGGER SHARE OF US$2.6 BILLION GLOBAL HALAL MARKET
Indonesia has significant potential to become a global supplier in the sharia economy, supported by a US$2.6 trillion halal market and growing demand from both Muslim and non-Muslim consumers. Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti noted that Indonesian halal products, particularly modest fashion and halal food, have already gained traction in non-Muslim-majority markets such as Japan, South Korea, and Australia. Indonesia currently ranks fourth worldwide in sharia economic and financial development, with strong positions in halal food, Islamic media and recreation, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, travel, and Islamic finance. Despite these achievements, Destry emphasized the need for greater integration across the halal ecosystem, especially in Muslim-friendly tourism and sharia financial services, to maximize economic benefits. She warned that neighboring countries like Thailand and the Philippines are actively positioning themselves as regional sharia finance hubs. Strengthening Indonesia’s financial sector is therefore essential to support business expansion, increase production capacity, and enable local industries to meet rising global demand for halal products and services.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/433032/indonesia-eyes-bigger-share-of-us26-billion-global-halal-market (ICE GIACARTA)
