GOVT REMOVES RESTRICTIONS ON WHEAT EXPORTS; ROBUST EXPORT demand for Indian wheat from Bangladesh

India has lifted a more than four-year ban on exports of wheat and wheat products, a move that’s likely to temper higher global prices of the staple food. Global wheat prices had been rising due to geopolitical tensions, exacerbated by the Russia-Ukraine war, triggering greater demand from Bangladesh. However, only the leading companies were able to take advantage of this opportunity, due to the Indian government’s export curbs, said industry leaders. Small and medium enterprises can now export their brands overseas after the ban removal. Increased demand from Bangladesh is anticipated following the export restrictions being eased.
