Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean in the critical minerals sector to support future global industries. Director General for American and European Affairs Grata Endah Werdaningtyas highlighted that both Indonesia and the region share significant roles as primary producers of key minerals. While Latin American nations supply 40 percent of global mining commodities, 35 percent of global lithium, and 90 percent of the world's niobium, Indonesia holds vast reserves of nickel and bauxite. Given that developing nations rich in mineral resources are frequently relegated to raw material suppliers, Indonesia seeks to build joint supply chains and enhance its global positioning alongside countries like Brazil and Chile.To achieve this, Indonesia is targeting expanded partnerships focused on value addition, midstream production investments, clean energy, and advanced mining technology transfers. To explore these commercial opportunities, the ministry is organizing the INA-LAC Business Mission in Santiago, Chile, from October 1 to 2, 2026.
