During a meeting in Jakarta on September 14, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan and Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Poulev discussed expanding market access, investment opportunities, and technology sharing in the food and agricultural sectors. Indonesia presented its flagship export commodities, such as cocoa, coconut, palm oil, and halal products, aiming to utilize Bulgaria as a strategic gateway into the broader European Union market. On the other hand, Indonesia offered investment opportunities in local cattle farming and milk processing technology to support the national food industry and the Free Nutritious Meal program. In return, Bulgaria expressed readiness to supply wheat, beef, corn, and milk, alongside promoting agricultural technology transfers and investment to enhance food security.This collaborative initiative aligns with the approaching 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both nations in 2026, leveraging Indonesia as a gateway to Southeast Asia and Bulgaria as an entry point to the European population. Trade between the two countries reached 230.8 million USD in 2025, with Indonesia recording a surplus of 64.2 million USD. Top Indonesian exports currently include nickel, aluminum, steel products, and margarine, while major imports from Bulgaria consist of wheat, medical equipment, spices, unmanufactured tobacco, and defense items.
