DECLINE IN CASPIAN SEA LEVEL IS NO LONGER A FORECAST, BUT A REAL ENVIRONMENTAL P

The continuous decline in the water level of the Caspian Sea in recent decades is no longer a forecast, but a real environmental problem, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Rauf Hajiyev said during a panel session held as part of the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, APA reports.“Changes in coastal zones, the shrinking of ecosystems and increased risks to species such as seals and sturgeon are among the main environmental consequences of this process. The shallowing of the Caspian Sea could have a serious impact on the lives of coastal communities and coastal economic activity in the region. Addressing this problem cannot be limited to steps taken at the national level alone. Joint efforts and coordinated actions by the Caspian littoral states are essential,” Rauf Hajiyev said.
