UKRAINE MOVES TOWARD FULL INTEGRATION OF ITS ELECTRICITY MARKET WITH EUROPE.

Ukraine is taking another major step toward integrating its electricity market with the European system by preparing to connect its day-ahead and intraday markets with European trading platforms.National power grid operator Ukrenergo, the Market Operator, and the Ukrainian Energy Exchange have signed memoranda establishing cooperation on preparations for market coupling between Ukraine and the EU.The initiative will focus on integrating Ukraine’s day-ahead market (DAM) and intraday market (IDM) with European platforms while introducing coordinated allocation of cross-border transmission capacity. The companies will jointly develop the contractual, organizational, and technical framework required for market coupling. This will include integrating information systems, coordinating business processes and establishing the mechanisms necessary for electricity trading under common European rules. The process will also involve Ukraine’s energy regulator, the Ministry of Energy, ENTSO-E, the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), European nominated electricity market operators and transmission system operators. The objective is to align the legal, technical, and organizational requirements needed to connect Ukraine’s electricity trading platforms with the European market.Once implemented, market coupling will allow electricity to be traded across borders under unified rules while enabling more efficient use of available capacity on interstate transmission lines. For Ukraine, the initiative marks another important stage in integrating its energy system with the EU, moving beyond physical grid synchronization toward deeper integration of electricity trading and market mechanisms.https://ubn.news/ukraine-moves-toward-full-integration-of-its-electricity-market-with-europe/ (ICE KIEV)
