INDONESIA BOOSTS MANUFACTURING CAPACITY AMID GLOBAL UNCERTAINTY

Indonesia’s manufacturing sector has remained resilient despite global challenges such as geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and rising raw material costs. According to Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Indonesia’s Minister of Industry, the country’s Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) stayed in expansion territory at 50.1 in March 2026, after recording 52.6 in January and 53.8 in February. This performance reflects the strength of Indonesia’s industrial base and relatively stable domestic demand, which continues to support production growth even amid external economic pressures. The minister noted that Indonesia compares favorably with many other economies, remaining among the ASEAN countries with expanding manufacturing activity. While global manufacturers face inflationary pressures, higher energy and material costs, and delays in raw material deliveries, Indonesia has managed to maintain growth momentum. Although output and new orders slowed in March due to supply constraints and rising costs, the sector’s ability to stay above the PMI expansion threshold demonstrates its resilience and capacity to withstand ongoing global uncertainty.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2719980/indonesia-boosts-manufacturing-capacity-amid-global-uncertainty (ICE GIACARTA)
