INDONESIA GOVT SUPPORTS IDR776 BILLION COCONUT PROCESSING INDUSTRY IN MOROWALI

The Indonesian government is supporting a IDR776 billion (around US$44 million) investment by PT Freenow Food Industry to build an integrated coconut processing facility in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. Backed by Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani, the project aims to strengthen Indonesia’s downstream coconut industry by converting coconut flesh, water, shells, and husks into export-oriented products with higher added value. The plant, inaugurated on September 7, 2026, will initially process about 184,000 tons of coconuts annually into products such as coconut milk, concentrated coconut water, coconut oil, and coconut shell charcoal, creating nearly 2,900 jobs. In later phases, the company plans to produce higher-value items, including ready-to-drink beverages for export. At full capacity, the facility will require around 500 million coconuts each year and could involve up to 10,000 farmers and local residents. The government has encouraged the company to ensure fair prices for farmers, support plantation rejuvenation, and include local SMEs in its supply chain.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/430497/govt-supports-rp776-billion-coconut-processing-industry-in-morowali?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
