The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is pushing to convert Indonesia's strong coffee foundation into higher value-added products to drive national economic growth. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita highlighted that as the world's fourth-largest coffee bean producer with 834,000 tons produced in 2025, Indonesia holds strategic potential across both upstream and downstream sectors. Acting Director General of Agro Industry Putu Juli Ardika noted that while national processing capacity stands at 1.81 million tons, 2025 production reached 928,000 tons representing a 51 percent utilization rate. The government has set a target to elevate industry utilization to 86.6 percent by 2029 through product innovation, productivity enhancement, and market expansion.Indonesia's processed coffee exports have already achieved strong global positioning, penetrating over 80 countries. In 2025, Indonesia ranked as the world's largest exporter of premix coffee, generating US$454.7 million and capturing a 17.54 percent global market share, while also ranking among the top five instant coffee exporters with US$225 million in sales. To maintain competitiveness, Kemenperin is encouraging stronger standardization, international certification, food safety, and sustainability practices.
