K-FOOD SHIFTS FOCUS TO US HYPERMARKETS, CHINESE 'PUNK WELLNESS' TREND

The government has reset its strategy to achieve this year's K-food export target of $16 billion, following $8.25 billion in exports recorded by July. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs highlighted the second half of the year as a decisive window to secure these goals. Planned measures focus on region-specific strategies, financial support for exporters, and addressing non-tariff barriers, following a joint public-private meeting with major firms including CJ, Samyang Foods, Daesang, and Nongshim. In the United States, Korea's largest food export market, authorities plan to expand presence beyond Asian community stores into mainstream hypermarkets like H.E.B., Kroger, Target, and Costco. In China, strategy centers on the rising "punk wellness" trend among younger consumers, utilizing major retail platforms like Tmall, Jingdong, TikTok, and Temu alongside a new three-day nationwide logistics system. Across Southeast Asia, Vietnam-based K-Market will share logistics hubs in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to streamline regional distribution. Halal certifications will be strengthened for markets in Indonesia and Malaysia, while premium Korean beef and pork exports to Singapore will be expanded. Additionally, marketing efforts will target Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East, leveraging high-demand periods such as Thanksgiving and Black Friday.        (ICE SEOUL)
