President Prabowo Subianto has invited Russian companies to invest in 138 oil and gas exploration blocks, aiming to leverage Russian technology and expertise to advance Indonesia's energy sector. Speaking at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Prabowo highlighted opportunities for joint ventures in both upstream and downstream projects, including oil refinery developments and integrated energy storage terminals. While Indonesia expects to meet its domestic gas demands using local LNG resources, the government remains eager to partner with Russian firms to adopt advanced technologies and optimize national energy potential.The move aligns with broader efforts by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to expand exploration across potential oil and gas working areas. As of May 2026, the ministry identified 118 potential working areas at various stages, including joint study phases, data acquisition tenders, and newly signed contracts.
