PLANS ADVANCE FOR AL-TAYEB ECONOMIC CITY
Plans for Al-Tayeb Economic City in Maysan province have moved forward following a meeting to assess water infrastructure requirements for the site. The meeting was chaired by the head of the National Investment Commission (NIC), Adel Dakhil Muhammad al-Yasiri and focused on the technical and economic feasibility of water harvesting projects at the site.It was attended by representatives from the Prime Minister's Office, relevant sectoral ministries, and KBR, which provided a technical review of the project's water management proposals.Key issues discussed included:A detailed presentation by Dr. Raed Sai, representing the Ministry of Higher Education, covering the technical vision for the cities of Al-Tayib, Al-Shib, and Ali Al-GharbiApproval by the Minister of Water Resources for construction of a dam on the Tayib river, including a pumping station and treatment plantPlans for well drilling and coordination of designs with the strategic water resources studyDiscussion of flood mitigation and water distribution options to meet the city's future needsReview of KBR's advisory report on water harvesting feasibilityAl-Yasiri stated that the Al-Tayib project receives direct attention from the Prime Minister, and that the NIC would continue coordinating with relevant bodies to develop and formally announce investment opportunities once technical requirements are complete (ICE AMMAN)
