CHINA ENDS DIVIDEND TAX EXEMPTION FOR FOREIGN INDIVIDUALS
Effective September 1, 2026, China officially ended its 1994 tax exemption on dividends and bonuses distributed to foreign individuals from foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs). Under new joint rules from the Ministry of Finance and State Taxation Administration, foreign individuals are now subject to a 20% personal income tax rate, with FIEs required to withhold the tax upon payment.
