Indonesia sees the sports industry as a major new driver of economic growth, according to Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani. He highlighted that the sector, valued at around US$521 billion globally, can stimulate not only sports-related businesses but also tourism and other supporting industries. To capitalize on this potential, the Investment Ministry and the Youth and Sports Ministry signed an MoU to strengthen cooperation on investment development and risk-based business licensing in the sports sector. The government also aims to streamline licensing through the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, which can automatically issue permits when approvals are delayed beyond the agreed service period. Roeslani noted that more than 250 permits have already been issued through this automatic approval mechanism. Meanwhile, Indonesia's Youth and Sports Minister, Erick Thohir, emphasized that the sports industry is growing by about 8% annually, outpacing the economic growth of many countries. He added that the opportunity extends beyond sports itself to sports tourism, a sector valued at nearly US$600 billion worldwide.
