The Ministry of Industry is accelerating the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies among small and medium industries (IKM) through the Industrial Technology Improvement Partnership Fund (DAPATI) Program, including the construction of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at the Sasirangan Timbaan Center in Tapin, South Kalimantan. The initiative supports Indonesia’s broader industrial transformation agenda, which seeks to increase productivity and competitiveness while promoting sustainable manufacturing practices. The program is designed not only to introduce practical green technologies but also to strengthen the capacity of industry workers to operate and maintain them independently over the long term. The newly built WWTP addresses wastewater pollution from the traditional sasirangan fabric-dyeing industry by using a simple, locally sourced treatment system consisting of seven processing tanks, including electrocoagulation and multiple filtration stages. Laboratory testing showed significant improvements in wastewater quality, reducing hydrogen sulfide by 98.75%, oil and grease by 97.33%, phenol by 91.66%, BOD by 81.77%, COD by 80.44%, and TSS by 40.74%.
