INDONESIA EXTENDS CREDIT CARD NETWORK AS DOMESTIC ALTERNATIVE TO VISA AND Mastercard
Bank Indonesia has expanded the domestically processed Kartu Kredit Indonesia (KKI), previously limited to government agencies, to individuals and businesses through eight major local banks. Initially offered as a digital card funding QRIS Scan and Tap transactions, KKI will later support online payments and physical cards. The initiative aims to broaden access to consumer credit and strengthen Indonesia’s national payment infrastructure. BI emphasised that KKI will coexist with cards issued through international networks such as Visa and Mastercard, allowing consumers to choose according to their needs, particularly as international networks retain an advantage for overseas transactions.Source: https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/bank-indonesia-expands-use-its-government-credit-card-system-retail-usage-2026-08-18/?utm_source=chatgpt.com (ICE GIACARTA)
