INDONESIA TO RUN STRATEGIC MINERAL AND COMMODITIES EXCHANGE

Indonesia plans to launch its Strategic Mineral and Commodities Exchange on January 1, 2027, as part of an effort to gain greater control over the pricing of its natural resource exports. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the exchange, established under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto, will enable Indonesia to set prices for commodities produced within the country rather than relying on benchmarks determined by overseas exchanges. Speaking at the 12th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) in Jakarta, Bahlil emphasized that Indonesia should have a stronger role in determining the value of its own resources. The initiative reflects long-standing concerns that global commodity prices for products such as nickel, coal, tin, palm oil, coffee, and rubber have largely been dictated by international markets despite Indonesia being one of the world's leading producers. The new platform, which will be supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), is expected to establish official Indonesia Reference Prices for major export commodities. By doing so, the government aims to strengthen its influence over commodity pricing, enhance market transparency, and shift more pricing power back to the producing nation.Source: https://en.vietnamplus.vn/indonesia-to-run-strategic-mineral-and-commodities-exchange-post350601.vnp (ICE GIACARTA)
