Indonesia's Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced that the government will soon launch a tender for a massive 100 GW solar power development program, with 30 GW to be developed in the first phase starting this year. The initiative aligns with Indonesia's 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), which allocates around 70–75% of future power capacity additions to renewable energy and energy storage systems such as batteries and pumped storage. The government, under President Prabowo Subianto, remains committed to expanding the country's renewable energy mix and leveraging Indonesia's abundant year-round solar resources.The solar expansion is also part of a broader strategy to improve energy security and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The government plans to retire 13 GW of diesel-fired power plants by 2026 and gradually increase solar capacity to 100 GW nationwide. Officials estimate that the program could save up to Rp73.9 trillion (about US$4 billion) annually in electricity generation costs, while also reducing fuel imports and conserving foreign exchange reserves.
