PRESIDENT PRABOWO TARGETS EARLY 2027 LAUNCH FOR INDONESIA COMMODITY EXCHANGE

President Prabowo Subianto is targeting the launch of the Indonesia Commodity Exchange (ICOMEX) on January 1, 2027, to strengthen Indonesia’s control over the trading and pricing of its key commodities, including crude palm oil (CPO), nickel, and coal. According to State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, the government is currently preparing the exchange’s technical and institutional framework, with the aim of giving Indonesia greater influence over price formation and trading mechanisms for commodities produced domestically. The government also plans to develop pricing systems that consider production costs in addition to global market prices, reinforcing national sovereignty over strategic resources. The initiative reflects the government’s broader effort to reduce reliance on foreign commodity exchanges, which have traditionally set benchmarks for many of Indonesia’s major exports. The Indonesia Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (ICDX) may be incorporated into ICOMEX, while the new exchange is expected to operate under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The move is aligned with the government’s policy of centralizing commodity exports through PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) and is intended to provide Indonesia with greater control over the value and trading of its natural resources, supporting a more independent and sovereign commodity market.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/7159/markets-and-finance/president-prabowo-targets-early-2027-launch-for-indonesia-commodity-exchange (ICE GIACARTA)
