Transport trade unions to strengthen coordination along Trans-Caspian International Transport RouteTransport Unions from Central Asia, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region gathered in Kazakhstan’s capital to strengthen cross-border coordination along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, the press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) reported.“The main goal of the international dialogue platform was to strengthen cross-border coordination of the trade union movement along the Middle Corridor. Participants discussed mechanisms for protecting workers’ rights, promoting standards of decent and safe work in rail transport, and enhancing the role of unions in securing global supply chains,” the company said in a statement.The two-day strategic meeting of affiliates of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) brought together leaders of transport union organizations from Central Asia along with delegates from Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, according to KTZ.The choice of Kazakhstan as the host country reflects its pivotal role in Eurasian logistics, the rail operator noted.ITF Land Transport Director Sean Sayer said Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics sector ranks among the most integrated in the world.During the roundtable, participants discussed expanding union membership and ranks, the current situation on the ground, organizational priorities, industry-specific challenges, and prospects for deepening regional cooperation and coordinating the work of border-area unions.“Meeting participants expressed hope for continued cooperation, noting that joint efforts would help harmonize labor relations, improve workers’ quality of life, and foster a favorable environment along the entire length of the Middle Corridor,” the statement said.
