INDONESIA AND ITALY EXPLORE LEATHER & FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP AT BTN Indonesia Fashion Week 2026
Italy and Indonesia are deepening cooperation in the fashion, leather, and footwear industries through the BTN Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2026 series. The collaboration, facilitated by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) Jakarta Trade Office, brings together associations such as ASSOMAC, Assocalzaturifici, SACE, APRISINDO, and APPMI, alongside government representatives. This initiative builds on Italy’s recent visit to Garut, West Java, which is being explored as a potential integrated hub for fashion, leather, tourism, and culture. ASSOMAC’s Director General, Agostino Apolito, highlighted Garut’s potential to serve as a “territorial laboratory” for industrial partnership, aligning with the upcoming EU-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) set to take effect in early 2027. The cooperation emphasizes technology transfer, investment, and expanded market access, with Italy showcasing its footwear industry trends through campaigns like “Shoes First.” SACE noted that Italy’s exports to Indonesia reached €2.25 billion in 2025, marking an 80% increase, and identified Indonesia as one of the fastest-growing markets in Southeast Asia. Indonesian industry leaders, such as APRISINDO’s Henny Setiadi, welcomed the partnership as a way to elevate local footwear and leather industries to international standards. The collaboration will continue with business matching, technology transfer, and participation in global exhibitions like Simac Tanning Tech and MICAM Milano, strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global fashion supply chain.Source: https://rri.co.id/ekonomi/bisnis/2613369/indonesia-dan-italia-jajaki-kemitraan-industri-kulit-dan-alas-kaki-di-btn-ifw-2026 (ICE GIACARTA)
