Indonesia is strengthening its chemical management framework as part of its bid to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), aiming to build a safer, more competitive, and sustainable chemical industry. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the government is working to harmonize policies and management systems with international standards to increase global confidence and expand market access for Indonesian chemical products. The effort includes collaboration with the OECD Secretariat through a fact-finding mission that reviewed Indonesia’s regulations, implementation practices, and readiness to meet OECD requirements. According to Industry Ministry official Wiwik Pudjiastuti, OECD accession will help improve transparency, coordination, and effectiveness in chemical management, particularly in areas related to health, safety, and environmental protection. The initiative comes as Indonesia’s chemical and chemical-based product exports reached USD 5.97 billion in the first quarter of 2026, up 16.83% year-on-year.
