Indonesia’s Trade Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to defending national trade interests after achieving only partial success in a WTO dispute against the European Union’s anti-dumping duties on Indonesian fatty acid imports. While the WTO panel rejected several of Indonesia’s complaints, it upheld some technical claims, including Indonesia’s argument that the EU did not apply a consistent methodology when calculating dumping margins. Indonesia's Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the ruling would not discourage efforts to address trade barriers and that Indonesia would continue pursuing strategic measures, including trade diplomacy. Although the final WTO report largely favored the EU and did not overturn the anti-dumping duties, Santoso described the panel’s recognition of methodological inconsistencies as an important step toward fair and rules-based trade. He praised the collaboration between the government, industry players, associations, and legal experts in challenging the measures.
