President Prabowo Subianto officially launched Indonesia's mandatory B50 biodiesel programme on Thursday (9/7), making the country the first in the world to require a 50% palm oil-based biodiesel blend in diesel fuel as part of its strategy to achieve energy self-sufficiency and strengthen domestic downstream processing. Prabowo said, Indonesia would cut 44 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions through the B50 programme. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia added, following the implementation of the B50 mandate, Indonesia has eliminated diesel imports, replacing the previous annual imports of 3-4 million kilolitres with domestically produced biodiesel.
