INDONESIA'S RETAIL SALES PERFORMANCE EXPECTED TO GROW IN JUNE 2026

Bank Indonesia (BI) projects retail sales in June 2026 to remain relatively stable, with the Real Sales Index (RSI) estimated at 221.6. On an annual basis, sales are expected to decline by 4.4% year-on-year, though growth in the Spare Parts and Accessories Group and Other Household Goods Group provides support. Monthly retail sales are projected to contract by 0.8%, improving from the 1.5% decline recorded in May. The improvement is driven by stronger demand for household goods and clothing, supported by the start of the school holiday season. In May 2026, the RSI reached 223.4, with sales supported by auto parts, fuel, and cultural and recreational goods, while monthly sales fell 1.5%, a smaller decline than April’s 11.6% drop. BI attributed consumer spending to demand during religious holiday periods such as Vesak, Ascension Day, and Eid al-Adha. Meanwhile, inflationary pressures are expected to increase in August due to higher raw material prices, with the General Price Expectations Index (GPEI) rising to 178.0 from 175.8 in July. Price expectations for November are forecast to remain stable at 167.5.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2556341/retail-sales-performance-expected-to-grow-in-june-2026-bi (ICE GIACARTA)
