DUBAI INFLATION FORECASTED TO PEAK IN MID-2026 BEFORE EASING IN H2

Driven by conflict-related spikes in fuel, transport, and imported food costs, Dubai's annual inflation accelerated sharply to 4.8% in April 2026, up from 3.8% in March. Regional economic analysts project that headline price pressures will peak at 5.4% in May before moderating to 2.9% by December as oil prices ease and shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz recede. The recent surge was primarily propelled by the CPI basket's transport component, which jumped 9.2% month-on-month in April due to higher fuel and freight fees, alongside a pressured food and beverage sector that saw a steep 5.3% monthly climb in March owing to seasonal Ramadan demand and geopolitical supply-chain bottlenecks. Furthermore, elevated housing inflation—anchored at roughly 7.4% early in the year following a substantial 2.8% upward adjustment in January—combined with recent PMI survey data showing that local firms are increasingly passing higher input costs onto consumers, indicates a broad-based, near-term pass-through effect that is expected to stabilize entirely in the second half of the year.
