INDONESIA ACCELERATES GLOBAL MARKET INTEGRATION THROUGH CPTPP ACCESSION TALKS
Preparatory discussions for Indonesia’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) officially began following approval by member countries during the bloc’s 10th Commission Meeting on 26 June 2026. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that this marks the first step toward establishing an accession working group, with Indonesia aiming to become a full CPTPP member by 2027. He noted that Indonesia already complies with many CPTPP principles through its commitments under the WTO, ASEAN, RCEP, and OECD frameworks, meaning only limited regulatory adjustments will be required. Joining the CPTPP is expected to bring significant economic benefits for Indonesia. The trade pact’s 12 member economies represent around 15% of global GDP and nearly 600 million consumers, offering expanded market access for Indonesian exports while attracting greater foreign investment. Membership would also help integrate Indonesia more deeply into regional and global value chains, while providing businesses with simplified customs procedures, modern digital trade rules, stronger investment and intellectual property protections, and harmonized rules of origin. In parallel with the CPTPP accession process, the government will continue pursuing bilateral free trade agreements to further strengthen Indonesia’s international trade network.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6836/markets-and-finance/indonesia-accelerates-global-market-integration-through-cptpp-accession-talks (ICE GIACARTA)
