INVESTMENT IS SLURPING, 3 INDONESIA'S SEC ASK FOR THOUSANDS OF HECTARES OF LAND

Three of Indonesia’s 25 Special Economic Zones (KEKs) — Kendal in Central Java, Gresik in East Java, and Galang Batang in Riau — have formally requested land expansions to accommodate surging investment demand. The Ministry of Economy revealed that existing KEK capacity has been fully utilized, with Kendal alone hosting around 140 industries across electronics, textiles, home furnishings, and battery components. Kendal’s utilization rate has reached 100%, prompting a proposal to double its area by adding another 1,000 hectares. Similarly, KEK Gresik and Galang Batang are seeking expansions, with Galang Batang requesting an additional 2,700 hectares to support smelter and alumina industries. The government noted that new investment prospects include data centers, with around 10 already operating in Nongsa Digital Park, Batam. The expansion proposals highlight Indonesia’s growing industrial base and the need for larger KEK areas to sustain manufacturing growth and attract future investments.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20260703/257/1985412/investasi-membeludak-tiga-kek-ri-minta-tambah-lahan-ribuan-hektare (ICE GIACARTA)
