Indonesia will start collecting income tax through major e-commerce platforms beginning August 1, 2026, following a one-month transition period for Tokopedia, Shopee, Lazada, and Blibli to prepare their systems. Under Finance Ministry Regulation No. 37/2025, these marketplaces are designated as collectors of Article 22 income tax on behalf of the government. According to Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto, this is not a new tax, but a change in the collection method, shifting responsibility from individual sellers to marketplace operators. The tax will be charged at 0.5% of a seller’s gross turnover (excluding VAT and luxury goods sales tax) and applies only to sellers with annual revenue above Rp500 million. Marketplaces will deduct the tax from seller earnings, remit it to the state, and report collections through monthly tax returns.
