INDONESIA’S TRADE SURPLUS HOLDS STRONG THROUGH MAY 2026
Indonesia recorded a trade surplus of USD 4.03 billion during January–May 2026, according to BPS. Total exports reached USD 115.36 billion, while imports stood at USD 111.33 billion. The surplus was supported by a 3.02% year-on-year increase in exports, led by the manufacturing sector, which grew 5.38%. Meanwhile, imports rose 15.24% compared to the same period last year, largely driven by higher demand for raw materials and auxiliary goods. Despite the positive cumulative performance, May 2026 posted a trade deficit of USD 1.61 billion. Monthly exports fell 5.73% year-on-year to USD 23.20 billion, while imports surged 22.16% to USD 24.81 billion. The sharp increase in imports outpaced exports, resulting in the monthly deficit, although Indonesia's overall trade balance remained in surplus for the first five months of 2026.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2539229/indonesias-trade-surplus-holds-strong-through-may-2026 (ICE GIACARTA)
