INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT EVALUATES EV INCENTIVES FOR NATIONAL CAR PROJECT

The Indonesian government is currently reviewing its electric vehicle (EV) incentive program while shifting focus toward developing a national car initiative. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the evaluation is still ongoing and declined to confirm whether the incentives will be implemented by August 2026 as previously planned. He also did not provide details on the challenges delaying the rollout or how the national car program will align with existing EV policies. This review comes amid rapidly growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles in Indonesia. Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales surged by 95.9% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 33,150 units, while electric motorcycles accounted for about 65% of the country’s EV population. Earlier, the government had planned incentives for 100,000 electric cars and 100,000 electric motorcycles in 2026, with motorcycle subsidies estimated at Rp5 million per unit, while the subsidy scheme for electric cars is still under consideration.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/420768/government-evaluates-ev-incentives-for-national-car-project (ICE GIACARTA)
