The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) remains optimistic about export opportunities to the European Union despite the upcoming implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Demand from Europe is still strong, as reflected in export data from January to April 2026, which showed a significant increase in both value and volume compared to the previous year. This growth has been largely driven by rising demand from the industrial sector, indicating that Europe continues to rely on Indonesian palm oil. However, challenges remain, particularly in meeting EUDR requirements. The main issue lies in land legality, especially for smallholder plantations, as regulatory frameworks differ between corporate and community-owned plantations. While policies such as the plantation moratorium limit expansion for companies, smallholders face difficulties in compliance.
